...If Your Ship Doesn't Come In...Swim Out To It!

Every Skill we teach has a purpose!!

It is very important that children learn to place their hands on top of the sides of the pool.  This is taught for the safety of the students.  They are taught to stay with
"hands on top" until given permission by an attending adult to leave the pool side, and to never violate this rule.  This rule is of the utmost importance to the safety of your child around the water, while at the swim school,
and away from it.

Your child will be taught to ALWAYS say "Boing Boing" prior to entering the water.  This is done for two reasons-FIRST, as a distinctive verbal notification (to parents and attending adults) that announces "I'm going in the water".  Second, it teaches that children that if they fall in or intentionally go in the water, they immediately turn around and put their "hands on top"

This skill teaches children to be comfortable with their face in the water, and to be comfortable with their eyes open underwater.  It also helps them become adept at underwater visual perception and how to swim for "hands on top".

Sue's Swim School teaches humming underwater and not blowing.  Humming teaches a child to exhale slowly without getting water up their nose or in their mouth.   Humming is also more consistent than blowing and keeps the water out of the nose and mouth since the bubbles are hummed from the nose.

This school teaches children to tuck in their chins to their chest when putting their faces in the water.  With the chin tucked properly their feet will be on top of the water in a horizontal (swimming) position.  If the chin is not tucked in properly their feet will sink, therefore causing the child to assume a vertical (non-swimming) position. ALWAYS enforce a chin in a tucked position so this can be habit.

The toys are a teaching aid that help the younger children to learn reaching, pulling and kicking.
